SMU HISTORY

SANTA MONICA UNITED (SMU) football club (formerly The Real Santa Monica Soccer Foundation, Inc.) is a member of the California Youth Soccer Association-South (CYSA-S) and is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization chartered to promote youth soccer in Santa Monica and surrounding areas of West Los Angeles.

Established in 1975, SMU is the oldest and most distinguished competitive youth soccer club on LA’s Westside. Our history places us within a unique group of clubs as being one of the earliest in all of Southern California to pioneer the huge and growing sport of soccer.

At SMU, we are proud to offer LA’s Westside community a most comprehensive youth development program that uses soccer as a vehicle. We take the privilege and responsibility of working with your child to become the best citizen he/she could possibly be very seriously. We will teach your child about character, sportsmanship, fair play, teamwork, competitiveness, winning with humility, losing with dignity, and the value of “giving it your all” every time he/she steps on the field.

Santa Monica United is committed to young boys and girls who love the sport and are serious about their development as citizens first and as elite soccer players second. We will do everything in our power to instill in your child a love for the game that will last a lifetime by providing an organized, well-structured, positive and enjoyable club experience, with the best available professional training. Our mission is to see all of our players achieve their full potential as athletes while also learning valuable life lessons through the environment of competitive sports.
