SMU G10 CLOSE SEASON WITH A BANG!!!

SMU G02 finished a fantastic first season with a Championship at the 2013 Joy Fawcett Classic.
Coached by Manu Appelius and Nina Ferrigno, the girls, which had already put together a very impressive first season in club (Bronze West Champions, Legends Cup 2013 Champions, State Cup quarterfinalists, 30-game unbeaten streak) finished off the season with an even more impressive  weekend at the Joy Fawcett Classic.
The girls started with a 5-1 win against FC Long Beach.
That was followed by the only so-so performance of the weekend, which saw them tie 1-1 to host SC Athletic.
On Sunday morning, the girls faced a talented Beach FC team and scored after only 30 seconds. The remaining 59 minutes were a tough battle which saw the girls prevail with a 1-0 score.
In the final, the girls faced an highly ranked BYSC Corona United Team. The battle for the Championship was epic and the girls were able to mantain their shutout and tied the game 0-0. The game had to be settled with a penalty kick shootout. SMU was able to score 3 kicks, while the opponents only scored 2 (2 blocks and one shot wide).
Players, parents and coaches all celebrated a well deserved win, which ended a season that went beyond any wildest expectation.

3 MORE SMU PLAYERS SELECTED FOR ODP!!!

MATTHEW KOH, GEOVANY SILIEZAR AND WILLIAM VAN ZANDT are selected for the CAL SOUTH PRO+ STATE I.D. 1997 BOYS SUMMER POOLS.
With these selections, the number of SMU Players selected for Pro+/ODP pools goes up to 22! An astonishing number of players and, by far, much more than any other Westside Club.
Once again, this shows SMU's predominance in the local soccer club's landscape and our commitment to excellence and development!

SMU G14 are finalists at Cerritos Memorial Challenge Cup!

SMU G98, coached by Pete Gail and Robert Bahedry, are Finalists at the Cerritos Memorial Challenge Cup.  The girls pulled off two of their biggest victories ever, knocking off the host team Strikers 3-0 in pool play as well as FC Legends (National Cup finalists) in a thrilling penalty shootout in the Semi-Finals.  Lead by the very physical and intelligent play of their two center-backs, Mei-Mei Tercek & Lily Dresner, along with some fantastic goalkeeping from Katie Wilkes, SMU had four shutouts over their first four matches.  The offense came through as well scoring seven goals in pool play.  The girls matched up against an incredibly physical Albion team in the final, and didn't quite have enough in the tank to pull it off, falling 3-0.  All in all, it was a a weekend this team will remember for a long time.  Congrats G98's, you are proving you can play some fantastic soccer against the premier teams in So-Cal.  Well done!

SMU's Griffin Bell commits to LMU!!!

Congratulations to GRIFFIN BELL, of our B17 (SMU B95) who has committed to play for Loyola Marymount University.
Griffin is part of the squad that won the CSL Premier Bracket just last fall. He has been a member of this club since the U13 season and now his hard work, perseverance and loyalty is rewarded with 4 more years of soccer at this prestigious school.
Congratulations Griffin!!! You represent all the values that SMU stands for and you deserve all of this.
Good luck at LMU next season! We will come and watch you play!!!

SMU's "Friday Fearless Footwork" clinic - MOVES BACK TO WEBSTER as of FRIDAY 2/15!!!

FRIDAY CLINIC continues from 5:30-7PM at WEBSTER MIDDLE SCHOOL (West LA) as of 2/11/2013

Aimed at boys and girls ages 6-12, this clinic is unique in that it is open to ALL PLAYERS - especially NON-SMU players. It is an opportunity for any/all players not yet affiliated with the club to work with our excellent coaching staff on improving their technical and tactical skills on a consistent, weekly basis. Each session is 90 minutes, and will incorporate a warm-up, a specific "topic" on technique, and finish up with about a 30 minutes small-sided game. The cost of each session is just $10 per player, payable in cash.
